Power Skating Skills Level I

This week long program will address forward skating, forward inside and outside edges, stopping and turning. Players of all skill levels will learn the newest and most efficient advancements in skating. Very detailed instruction is given about each component being taught as the players learn exactly how, and why, their body works in a systematic way to gain the proper end result. All learning styles are addressed (hearing, seeing, doing, feeling) to maximum each players learning potential. To do this, skills are taught slowly (learning the movement) and as the skill improves and the player gains confidence, then increased tempo is added. Elements scheduled to be covered:
 
    Balance and Body Position Forward and Backward
    Proper Knee Bend
    Weight Shift and Weight Transfer
    Proper Usage of the Skate Blade
    Controlled Sequence of Movement
    Plyometric Drills Forward and Backward
    Forward Stride (three parts)
    Proper Movement of the Arms in Stride
    Forward Edges
    Forward C-cuts
    One Foot Snowplow Stop (First Part of Hockey Stop)
    Control Stop (Neutral Upper Body Position)
    Defensive and Neutral Upper Body Positions for Stops
    Upper vs. Lower Body Rotation
    Proper Usage of the Skate Blade on Turns
    Stick Position on Stops and Turns
The Power Skating Skills Level I is the initial building block of the Schaefering Power Play Hockey System. If your player has not taken this program previously, or done private training with Diana, please contact her if you have a question about whether this is the correct program for your player.
